The Shand Award does not have a detailed outline of criteria for nomination as true outstanding volunteer service can be felt by many people but hard to measure. There is, however, a feeling or essence which we feel can serve as a basis for nominees:
· COMMITTED -- to the voluntary system of human service. This commitment does not have to include or be limited to United Way.
· CREATIVE -- in devising new and better ways of performing volunteer assignments and meeting community needs.
· OUTSTANDING -- providing leadership in volunteer service as well as serving in the ranks as a worker in the field.
· SUSTAINED -- service over a period of years, not necessarily in one post or organization.
· INSPIRATIONAL -- in that activities and quality of performance stimulated others to serve and work harder.
· TANGIBLE -- in the impact of service.
