How to Access the 2008 Tax Rebate for People Who Normally Do Not File An Income Tax Return
R. HatchMarch 12, 2008

People whose only source of income is from Social Security, Railroad Retirements Benefits, Veteran’s Disability or Pension and Survivor Benefits are most likely eligible for the 2008 Tax Rebate. This annual income must be at least $3,000 to qualify.

To receive these funds, you must file an income tax return for the 2007 tax year.  This is true even if you are not required to file an income tax return by the IRS because you have no taxable income.

If you have already filed a return using any 2007 IRS form, you do not need to file anything else.  Rebates are scheduled to be mailed in May and June 2008.

The IRS is in the process of mailing forms and directions to all qualifying folks listed above. In addition, forms are available at CA$H and other tax sites, most public libraries.

These forms are also available here:

If you have income in addition to these benefits, or think you may have a qualifying dependent, please call 2-1-1 (or 1-800-346-2211) to schedule an appointment with a local free income tax assistance program.
