Fourteen teams compete during Charity Softball Challenge to benefit United Way of the Southern Tier

CORNING, NY, September 2, 2008 – Fourteen (14) teams are competing Wednesday, September 3, Thursday, September 4, and Friday, September 5, in the fourth annual United Way Charity Softball Challenge that benefits United Way of the Southern Tier. The competition will be held at the Holding Point Recreational Center off Wygant Road in Horseheads.

 

The teams represent employees of the following companies:


  • Eaton Electric
  • Corning Community College
  • Kohls Department Store
  • Corning Incorporated, Erwin
  • Corning Incorporated, Shared Services
  • Phillips Lighting
  • Schweizer Aircraft
  • Imaging and Sensing Technology
  • Hunt Engineers Architects and Land Surveyors
  • Wegmans, Corning Store
  • Chemung Canal Trust Company
  • Marilyn’s Lakeview Tour and Travel

Opening ceremony will take place on at 4:10 p.m., Wednesday and will be followed by the National Anthem and the ceremonial first pitch, thrown by Ron Hatch, President, United Way of the Southern Tier. Play begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday’s games will be played starting at 4:30 p.m.

 

Play is round robin with the championship round based on those results. The winning team will receive a trophy and United Way t-shirts.

 

While at the game, spectators and players can participate in a 50/50 raffle, basket auctions, and other fund-raising activities. Refreshments will be available at concession stand.

 

The event is sponsored by Eaton Electric and Hunt Engineers, Architects, and Surveyors.
