September 14, 2009 – Twelve companies recently competed and raised $1,200 for the United Way of the Southern Tier’s 2009 Community Campaign.
The “Dutchmen” from Corning Incorporated, Erwin took first place at the seventh annual United Way Charity Softball Challenge sponsored by Eaton Corporation and Hunt Engineers, Architects and Land Surveyors. Corning Community College came in second place while Schweizer 2 of Schweizer Aircraft came in third. The event was held at the Holding Point Recreational Center off Wygant Road in Horseheads.
“The team members and their supporters had a good time despite the rainy weather on Friday and Saturday,” said Ron Hatch, president, United Way of the Southern Tier. “We appreciate the teams’ support and the efforts of the event’s organizers from Eaton Corporation, particularly Shawn Harrington, who gives his time and leadership each year to make sure the event is successful.”
United Way of the Southern Tier kicked off their Community Campaign on September 10. The Campaign will continue through mid December. In order to support the community, United Way plans to raise $4.5 million that will go towards helping youth succeed; families grow stronger, healthier and more financially secure; and people stay safely in their homes for as long as possible.
