CORNING, NY, October 28, 2009 –United Way of the Southern Tier recently raised about $600 during, ‘Paws United,’ a one-mile dog walk at Denison Park in Corning.
Paws United was a chance for area community members to socialize with other pet lovers and let dogs play with other dogs while helping support United Way of the Southern Tier. The event raised awareness about United Way’s mission to help people improve their lives. Each year, thousands of people in Chemung and Steuben counties are helped by United Way funded programs.
All money raised during the dog walk will go towards this year’s United Way Community Campaign. United Way hopes to raise $4.5 million in order to support local programs that help youth succeed; families become stronger, healthier and more independent; and people stay in their homes for as long as safely possible.
Free products for participants and prizes for the dog costume contest were provided by Uncle Mike's Kennels of Addison; Happy Tails Daycare and Pet Resort of East Corning; and Pet Tracks in Corning.
More photos of the event are available on United Way of the Southern Tier’s Facebook Page.
