November 24, 2009 – United Way of the Southern Tier raised more than $1,700 during a phone-a-thon on Monday morning sponsored by WETM-TV.
The event brought more than dollars to the campaign. Throughout the morning news cast the WETM news team wore LIVE UNITED T-shirts and discussed the ways United Way, through funded programs and initiatives, is helping thousands of people in Chemung and Steuben counties improve their lives.
“We are grateful to the community members who chose to support the local community by donating to United Way during Monday’s Phone-a-thon,” said Steve Hughes, vice president of resource development, United Way of the Southern Tier. “Additional thanks go to WETM TV for helping us reach an important audience we hope to expand on in the future.”
The money raised during the pledge drive will go towards United Way’s $4.5 million Community Campaign goal. To date, the area’s largest non-governmental provider of funding for health and human service programs and initiatives has raised about $3.6 million.
United Way has extended its fundraising deadline to the end of December.
