Oct. 29, 2019: 

CORNING – Community members are invited to learn more about adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, and trauma-informed care at a free screening of WSKG’s “Chasing the Dream” followed by a panel discussion Nov. 19 at Corning-Painted Post High School auditorium. 

“Chasing the Dream” is a poverty awareness campaign centered on the Southern Tier that examines the root causes of local poverty and the challenges and successes of poverty-reduction efforts. This episode explores how trauma and abuse suffered in childhood has been scientifically demonstrated to affect an adult’s health and well-being, and how area agencies are using this information to create better outcomes for the populations they serve.

The screening will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium followed by a panel discussion from 6 to 7 p.m. featuring: 

• Mike Ginalski, Superintendent, Corning-Painted Post Area School District; 

• Barbara Hubbell, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, United Way of the Southern Tier;

• Laura Rossman, CEO, Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc.;

• Darlene Smith, Director, Steuben County Public Health.

Natasha Thompson, host of “Chasing the Dream” and president and CEO of Food Bank of the Southern Tier, will serve as moderator.
