June 9, 2023: 

Nearly 350 volunteers took part in United Way of the Southern Tier’s annual Day of Action on Friday.

From painting walls to pulling weeds and planting flowers, volunteers fanned out across the region to help at over 30 locations.

Day of Action, sponsored by Siemens Energy, is United Way of the Southern Tier’s premier volunteer event each year. Nonprofit organizations that serve Chemung and Steuben counties register their volunteer needs with United Way in the spring. United Way then matches volunteers with the projects.

“Day of Action is important to the nonprofit sector as the volunteers tackle projects that otherwise would not get done,” said United Way President and CEO Steve Hughes.

United Way of the Southern Tier will hold Day of Action again in June 2024. Nonprofits or volunteers that would like to participate should contact United Way’s Director of Communications and Community Engagement Lois Wilson by email or at 607-377-5834.
