Anonymous gift boosts Steuben County Flood Relief Fund

United Way of the Southern Tier has received a $100,000 donation to the Steuben County Flood Relief Fund from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.
“We are extremely grateful for this generous donation to the relief fund,” said United Way President and CEO Steve Hughes. “This gift comes at an important time for individuals and families who are just starting the recovery process and need community help to rebuild their lives.”
United Way committed $100,000 to the fund following the August 9 flood and is rapidly responding with financial support. To date, the organization has assisted 105 children, adults and senior citizens.
Donations have come from more than 75 individuals as well as local businesses and organizations including: the Baron-Steuben Chapter of the Association of Former New York State Troopers; Cohocton Lions Club; Corning Incorporated’s Community Impact & Investment; District 6 Federal Credit Union; Kennedy Valve Manufacturing of Elmira; Loyal Order of the Moose #210; Racalto’s; The Ryan Agencies; ServU Federal Credit Union; St. James Episcopal Church; Tyrone United Methodist Women, and Watkins Glen Presbyterian Church.
The fund totals nearly $300,000. Donations are still being accepted.

United Way of the Southern Tier is working with several local non-profit organizations to support the needs of those impacted by the natural disaster. They include: Arbor Housing & Development; Catholic Charities of Steuben & Livingston, and Pro Action of Steuben and Yates, Inc.
