United is the way we talk about mental health
Supporting mental health is important at all times. Studies show that one in five adults experience mental illness, yet less than half receive the support they need.
Many individuals do not seek mental health treatment because of a lack of resources or the feared stigma attached to mental illness. With localized partnerships, United Way aims to change the conversation about mental health in the Southern Tier.
By providing access to quality, affordable health care, United Way’s partners ensure that our communities get the mental health resources they need. If you are feeling overwhelmed, depressed, suicidal or dealing with other mental health challenges one of these programs could help:
LOCAL RESOURCES
• Family Service Society in Corning or call 607-962-3148.
• Family Services of Chemung County or call 607-733-5696.
• Regional substance abuse resources: Substance Abuse Regional Alliance, SARA Partners.
• Regional suicide prevention resources: Walk A Mile in My Shoes.
• Chemung County Network of Care offers resources, links, articles, fact sheets and reports on behavioral health.
NEW YORK STATE RESOURCES
• New York State Parent Helpline offers support for parents. Call 1-800-CHILDREN (244-5373) to be connected with local services.
• New York State Project Hope offers a free and confidential emotional support line 1-844-863-9314, an online provider directory, and online wellness groups.
• New York State Department of Health has resources for general health as well as COVID-19. Call 1-888-364-3065.
• Headspace: Headspace offers free meditation and mindfulness content.
