United Way of the Southern Tier’s Board of Directors recently approved an investment of more than $2.5 million to 67 local nonprofit programs that provide services for children, senior citizens, and struggling individuals and families.

More than 6,000 caring people in Chemung and Steuben counties, including individuals, employees of area businesses and corporate partners, gave generously to United Way of the Southern Tier in 2021 to support their neighbors in need and provide this investment.

“Every gift to United Way, no matter the size, makes a difference for someone who lives right here in our community,” said United Way of the Southern Tier President & CEO Stephen M. Hughes.

The total support for fiscal year 2022-2023 includes an additional board investment of $150,000 to bolster programs that provide meals and caregiving for senior citizens and emergency assistance for families and individuals facing economic hardships.

“United Way lifts up our community’s most pressing needs and seeks solutions,” said United Way of the Southern Tier Board Chair Marty Curran, Corning Incorporated Executive Vice President & Innovation Officer. “Together, we can ensure senior citizens feel supported, young children are prepared to succeed in school, and those in need can get back on their feet.”
