Chemung woman finds help to keep home of 50 years
This is the actual success story of a Chemung County woman who was helped by programs funded with your gifts to United Way of the Southern Tier:
Helen was about to lose her home of 50 years following the death of her husband, who had no life insurance or pension. She was behind on her taxes and going without groceries so she could pay her bills.
Helen found help at a United Way of the Southern Tier-funded program that taught her how to create a budget and gave her a strategy to contact her creditors.
She was able to pay her taxes, get caught up on bills, and receive other assistance that allowed her to stay in her home.
United Way is committed to helping our senior population age safely in their homes and to programs that help educate Southern Tier residents on how to manage their credit and focus on debt reduction and asset-building to provide a more stable future for themselves and their families.
Helen's situation is not unique, but her story had a happy ending because donors supported United Way of the Southern Tier.
